Myrtlewood is found in only two geographic areas in the world, Jerusalem and a small area along the Pacific Coast.  The Myrtlewood of this area is found in small groves scattered throughout the lower valleys and along the rivers of Southwestern Oregon and the Northwest corner of California.  Centruries are required to grow a Myrtle tree large enough to be useable.  The Myrtle is a unique broadleaf evergreen of the laurel family, and the wood is quite hard, strong, close-grained and fine textured, and it is world famous for its varied colors and grain patterns, such as burl, swirls and fiddleback.  Shades of silver grey, warm tan, golden brown, reds and black are beautifully interwoven so that no two pieces are the same.  Great care and time is necessary to properly cure and season Myrtlewood, and it may take as long as three or four years from the time a tree is harvested before finished articles can be produced.  For beauty, durablilty and historical value, this wood has no equal.
